Useless To Use Technorati tags?

Is Technorati tags usefull to bring traffic to your blog? i haven’t ever used the Technorati tags plugin for this blog or even other blogs that i owned just because i didn’t feel they would be usefull, i guess my hunch was right as i read today on DailyBlogTips that tags might just be pointless.
I quote:
You can guess that at his point I was getting skeptical about the usefulness of the tags. In order to get a more clear picture of the situation I decided to research about the Top 100 Popular blogs on Technorati, and here is the results I gathered:
* out of the 100 most popular blogs only 7 were using tags in blog posts
* of those who did, 4 were using internal tags (i.e. Tags linking to internal pages)
* only 3 out of 100 were actually using the Technorati Tags (i.e. Linking to Technorati)

Actually the rel=”tag” doesnt have to point to technorati.
The wordpress and movable type Category also implements the “tag” microformat which search engines understood (including technorati).
take a look at your own Category, which also uses rel=”tag” feature.
Technology.
“out of the 100 most popular blogs only 7 were using tags in blog posts”
So the statement is inaccurate, because im betting that you’re not counting the blog category too.
Linking to technorati is unnecessary in order for this to work by the way.
The tags microformat is also parse by google bot too as part of their indexing routine.

well, it works for me. even the traffic from technorati was not so massive, but it’s still give me a traffic because i used to ping my post (manually) at technorati.
