Last Friday Microsoft launched aggreg8, a social networking and collaboration space for the IT community.

aggreg8 allows IT Pros to “mix-n-mingle” and a forum for developers to share scripts, tools, or best practices, or even to just connect with others within the profession.

Kevin Remde, an IT Pro evangelist for Microsoft, wrote in a blog post announcing the service.Aggreg8 has no relation to the RSS reader project that carried the same name. Philip Roche, the creator of that program, was approached in July by Microsoft if he would sell the domain names. Both Aggreg8.com and Aggreg8.net were sold for $5,000, he said in a blog post.

In a twist of events popular P2P software Limewire is now suing the RIAA for Antitrust And Consumer Fraud.

It all began when the RIAA sued Limewire after Limewire wouldn’t agree to simply roll over and pretend the RIAA’s interpretation of the Supreme Court decision in the Grokster case was actually what the Supreme Court said.

to quote:

The court actually said that services could be found liable, if they were shown to actively induce infringement. The RIAA and the MPAA pretended this meant that any file sharing network that had unauthorized content was flat-out illegal. Of course, that’s a bit of a stretch.

The outcome of this lawsuit is what i am anticipating, i’ve always been a user of Limewire and believe it or not have never downloaded any other P2P software, Limewire is just what the doctor ordered, i’ve got myself the Pro version which is even better!.

Let’s wait and see what happens to this particular lawsuit..go Limewire!

Amazon UnBox has been officially launched and is yet another store set to compete with Apple’s iTunes.

UnBox will allow user to watch movies on their PC in DVD quality and users will have the choice of purchasing the movie/series or renting it.

Content can be downloaded to two different computers and can be stored on up to two portable media players that support Microsoft’s “PlaysForSure” technology. All purchases are stored in the customer’s Unbox account, and they can be re-downloaded on multiple computers. The good thing about it is that downloaded videos can be watched during downloading. According to the company, the “typical” broadband user should be able to start watching within five minutes of ordering a movie.

The bummer though is that at the moment it only works with Windows based PC’s.

When i visited the site it was pretty fast loading and the previews did look in good quality, i’m still hesistant to get an account but if you have one and have actually downloaded a movie than please do share your experience!

Yet another online music store will be available for the masses as Samsung prepares itself to launch it’s very own music store to compete with Apple’s iTunes and the upcoming store by Microsoft to complement Zune.

Samsung plans to complement their store with their renage of MP3 players much like what Apple does with iTunes.

Samsung has tapped MusicNet to provide the library of songs for the store, which will likely offer both a monthly subscription and individual downloads. MusicNet currently powers Yahoo! Music Unlimited and MTV Networks’ URGE, which was developed with Microsoft and will be the primary service in Windows Media Player 11.

Do we really need another music store? what are they gonna offer that others haven’t?
Quiet a dumb idea if you ask me.

So your PC is being shared with your brother, sister or your friend, and for the sake of privacy you don’t want them to view your folders and it’s content, sure you could just make another user for them to login as, but there’s also another way to make your folders for your eyes only.

Here it is:

Note

This option is only available for folders included in your user profile. Folders in your user profile include My Documents and its subfolders, Desktop, Start Menu, Cookies, and Favorites. If you do not make these folders private, they are available to everyone who uses your computer.

When you make a folder private, all of its subfolders are private as well.

You cannot make your folders private if your drive is not formatted as NTFS

Open My Computer

Double-click the drive where Windows is installed (usually drive (C:), unless you have more than one drive on your computer).

If the contents of the drive are hidden, under System Tasks, click Show the contents of this drive.

Double-click the Documents and Settings folder.

Double-click your user folder.

Right-click any folder in your user profile, and then click Properties.

On the Sharing tab, select the Make this folder private so that only I have access to it check box.

Or if you have $39.95 to spare and want to password protect your folder than click here

It most probably has happened to you before, or maybe it will happen to you soon.

LARGE files

Yes…ever experienced sending a 4GB file through e-mail? how was your experience with that?!
most probably if was frustrating and time consuming, even made worst if you experienced “time out” as i did

What if you could split that big piece of a file into 4 smaller components so that each component will now be 1GB….that would be fantastic ain’t it?, or maybe split it even more so that each component is just 500MB?

Thank goodness for Partridge Software that has created a really cool software – the FileSplit 2.34.

FileSplit is a utility that splits large files into smaller files so that they can be easily copied to floppy disks or transferred via e-mail. Files can be split directly from Explorer by right clicking on any file and selecting Split File. FileSplit has an easy to use interface that makes splitting files fast and painless.

However this is NOT a free software (though you can try it for 30 days FREE), it is infact in my opinion fairly priced at $10.

Need to compress a file, instead of using WinZip you might also want to try WinRaR

WinRAR is a 32-bit Windows version of RAR Archiver, an archiver and archive manager.

RAR files can usually compress content by 8 percent to 15 percent more than ZIP files can. WinRAR’s main features include strong general and multimedia compression, the ability to process non-RAR archive formats, ZIP compression and decompression, support for long filenames, programmable self-extracting archives (SFX), repair of damaged archives, authenticity verification, embedded file comments, and encryption. Unicode is supported in archive filenames, allowing non-English filenames to be handled painlessly. You can manipulate the parameters of many archives at once and view a volume sequence as a single archive.

WinRAR can convert other archive formats to RAR and search for specified text and files in archives.

Talk about storage! while the whole world is starting to focus on Blu Ray & HD DVD an indian-born scientist,Professor V Renugopalakrishnan of the Harvard Medical School in Boston has claimed to have developed a layer of protein made from tiny genetically altered microbe proteins which could store enough data to make computer hard disks almost obsolete.

What do you do with 50TB for goodness sake?
But it’s great for all those who download tons of movies and music…;)

“The protein-based DVDs will be able to store at least 20 times more than the Blue-ray and eventually even up to 50,000 gigabytes (about 50 terabytes) of information. You can pack literally thousands and thousands of those proteins on a media like a DVD, a CD or a film or whatever,” he said.

Yes,I know..i know…your going to point out that there’s already another way to sync Firefox bookmarks and that is with Google Sync

But it’s always good to have alternatives no?

Foxmarks is an extension for Firefox and the main difference between Foxmarks and Google Sync is that Foxmarks Syncs your bookmarks ‘only’ while Google Sync continuously synchronizes your browser settings – including bookmarks, history, persistent cookies, and saved passwords – across your computers.

So if your looking to sync just your bookmarks than Foxmarks is the extension for you.

What in the world does Foxmarks do?
This is of course the most prominent question.Foxmarks is an extension for Firefox that allows you to synchronize your bookmarks across multiple computers, which is a boon to most people that actually have more than one machine…PC + Notebook.

All you have to do is install Foxmarks on each machine that you want to keep synchronized, and Foxmarks will automatically propagate the changes that you make on one machine to all the others.

**Let me also say that Foxmarks requires a one-time account creation, after that it’s easy peasy.

Ok, i’m getting the picture now..but how does it actually work?

Foxmarks relies on a server (you can set up your own server if you wish, or use the Foxcloud server that Foxmarks provides for free) to store your bookmarks. Each time you make a change to your bookmarks, Foxmarks uploads those changes to the server, where your other computers running Foxmarks can download them.

Ok, enough chatter give me the Download Link

Why most certainly!

here it is.

enjoy

“Saturday Night Live” and “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” are just some of the programs that are making it’s way to YouTube -legally,thanks to an agreement between NBC and YouTube.

NBC in the past had been pissed off by YouTube who they claimed infringed copyright by allowing users to upload skits from “Saturday Night Live” and “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” among others, reaching a boiling point when when a video of a Saturday Night Live skit, called “Lazy Sunday” showed up on the site.

The spoof, featuring SNL regulars Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg rapping about eating cupcakes and going to see The Chronicles of Narnia, was viewed millions of times. Nonetheless, NBC asserted its copyright and asked YouTube to take it down.

YouTube meanwhile has no plans to follow the Napster route by infringing copyrights, instead
it’s co-owner Chad Hurley says it’s developing tools and putting process in place to control what’s going on in the site.

And with leading ad agency – Leo Burnett hailing YouTube as the advertising medium of the future, you can bet more will follow NBC’s route.

I’m sure for at least once in your lifetime you would have downloaded files from Megaupload.com,RapidShare.de or Yousendit.com.

You would have come across many problems as well in downloading files, such as time limits, one download at a time from a IP address, etc…

But rejoice!, there’s tips, tricks and hacks out there to overcome this problem.

for example:

Byepass the Rapidshare data download limit

Rapidshare limits each user to a certain amount of downloading per day based on the users IP address. You can easily cheat rapidshare by showing a different IP address.

1. Clear your browser cookies.
2. Open the command prompt (Start – Run – cmd.exe)
3. Run the following simple commands:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
4. Type exit to close the DOS window. Restart the rapidshare download job.

This trick may not work if your ISP has assigned you a static IP address. (BSNL assigns a dynamic IP)

Free Rapidshare Premium Account

To login into the RapidShare – PREMIUM-Zone without using your credit card or PayPal, During certain periods, Rapidshare provides free premium account to normal users. The free premium rapidshare links are valid for 24 hours. The URL to try is rapidshare.de/cgi-bin/freeaccount.cgi It may be possible that all rapidshare free premium accounts are taken so try again later.

More Rapidshare hacks – Search for files on megaupload and rapidshare

Search Video on Megaupload: avi|mpg|mpeg|wmv|rmvb site:megaupload.com
Search Audio Music files on MegaUpload: mp3|ogg|wma site:megaupload.com
Search Software Warez ISO Programs on MegaUpload: zip|rar|exe site:megaupload.com
Search ebooks and magazine on megaupload: pdf|rar|zip|doc|lit site:megaupload.com

Search Video on rapidshare.de avi|mpg|mpeg|wmv|rmvb site:rapidshare.de
Search MP3 Music cds files on Rapidshare: mp3|ogg|wma site:rapidshare.de
Search full software programs on Rapidshare zip|rar|exe site:rapidshare.de
Search pdf files, documents, ebooks, magazines: pdf|doc|lit|rar|zip site:rapidshare.de

For megaupload and rapidshare searching, narrow down you search for what you want by putting your query at the first part.

Say if you want to search for da vinco code ebook use the query
da vinci code pdf|doc|lit|rar|zip site:rapidshare.de

Say if you want to search for madonna mp3 files and music videos use the query
madonna mp3|wmv site:rapidshare.de

Well, Hybrid Hard Drives (HHD) integrates NAND flash memory with the standard magnetic storage in today’s hard drives.

Samsung says they will demonstrate a prototype of the first commercially available (HHD) at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference in Seattle next week.

“We see the HHD as the most advanced and cost-effective means of improving the performance of a notebook computer’s storage functionality,” Samsung senior marketing vice president Jon Kang said. “The Samsung HHD addresses the two biggest consumer desires: extending battery life and improving boot and resume performance.”

AOL UnCut is in Beta right now, as the whole world knows by now, it’s just a total rip of the idea behind YouTube.

Videos of up to 5 minutes can be uploaded to the service, and they are then converted to the Flash 8 format (same as YouTube). Like YouTube, videos are rated, commented and shareable. Also, any video may be embedded into another website via a code snippet. The only significant difference between AOL Uncut and YouTube is that YouTube supports tagging, whereas UnCut doesn’t.
