I have heard many claims in my life of the worlds greatest, smallest, lightest and fastest devices. Most of these I discount as pure tosh. Everyone claims to be the best at their own target audience, it is after all the name of the game.

This time however the Fit-PC seems to have pulled off being the worlds smallest XP compatible PC, or maybe even just the worlds smallest PC . The Fit-PC comes in at a tiny 10cm wide, 11cm long and only 3cm deep, making it quite possibly the worlds smallest computer.

Considering its tiny size the fit-PC has a fairly decent amount of hardware under the hood,

CPU: AMD Geode LX800 500MHz

Chipset: AMD CS5536

Display: Integrated Geode LX display controller up to 1920×1440

Memory: 512MB DDR 333MHz soldered on-board

Hard disk: 2.5” IDE 60GB

Ports:
RJ45 Ethernet port 100Mbps
WLAN 802.11b/g 54Mbps
3 x USB 2.0 HiSpeed 480Mbps
mini RS-232 (cable available from CompuLab)
VGA DB15
Stereo line-out audio (headphones)
Stereo line-in audio / Mic

While it would not stand up to many of today’s games the fact that all this is packed into the worlds smallest XP compatible machine makes it more than worth the downgrade!

Unfortunately I soon realised that while this is possibly the worlds most portable PC it is just the PC, include the power pack, monitor, the monitors power pack, keyboard and mouse and suddenly I think you would find you asking yourself why in gods name didn’t you just buy a laptop?!

Polaroid today announced the release date for their long awaited digital upgrade to the Polaroid Camera. The PoGo is a Pocket Sized Bluetooth Portable Printer that uses no ink (Thats right a completely inkless printer.

By making the printer inkless they have ensured that it is Robust, small enough to fit in your pocket and has fantastic quality even while on the move.

The other great thing about the Pogo Pocket Printer is its Cellphone compatability, it can print directly from your cell phone via Bluetooth or USB, making it the ultimate mobile portable printer.

The pocket printer works by heating special crystals found on the paper that comes with it, this gives pictures created by the pogo a fantastic non pixelized look that is prevailent in todays printed world.

The Pogo portable pocket printer will cost around $149 on release and uses a special stickybacked paper which will cost around $0.35 each, this is fairly cheap for on the move portable printing, but the pictures do only come out wallet sized!

The fact that the Pogo Pocket Printer can print fast pictures directly from your cell phone is a great idea, i cant see it taking long before colleagues begin to take advantage of this to pat you on the back leaving a picture or two stuck there!

Your next laptop could have a continuous power battery that lasts for 30 years without a single recharge thanks to work being funded by the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory. The breakthrough betavoltaic power cells are constructed from semiconductors and use radioisotopes as the energy source. As the radioactive material decays it emits beta particles that transform into electric power capable of fueling an electrical device like a laptop for years.

I came across this amazing sale today,a branded security software/hardware site is up for sale at sitepoint.com and the minimum bid is $200,00 while the BIN (Buy It Now) is at $450,000, yup almost half a million!

The site that is for sale is Invisible KeyLogger, a superior stealth surveillance application that is completely undetectable.

The KeDevil is a Hardware Keylogger capable of memorizing over 260,000 keystrokes including website addresses, passwords, or anything typed on your computer. The KeyDevil is in fact a small electronic device plugged in between a standard PS/2 keyboard and a Personal Computer. It’s main function is to log all keys pressed on the keyboard to internal non-volatile memory. Stored data can be later recalled and analyzed at anytime.

Now that’s a cool thing ain’t it? well not that cool if you value your privacy

As of the time of this post not a single soul has matched the minimum bid although according to the owner the site makes a cool $12,000 per month, if that were true than the new owner would make his money back in no time with the help of some advertising.

Check out the site’s auction here.

It’s simply amazing to sit back and watch how the size of storage is growing every single day it seems, i mean who would really need a 1 TeraByte storage solution?, but indeed there are some out there that have the remarkable amount of data to store, mostly music or photos i suppose.

The Iomega StorCenter provides a nominal terabyte that can be configured as RAID 0, 1 or 5, plus Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11g wireless (WEP or WPA) and support for UPnP AV media players.

So your PC is being shared with your brother, sister or your friend, and for the sake of privacy you don’t want them to view your folders and it’s content, sure you could just make another user for them to login as, but there’s also another way to make your folders for your eyes only.

Here it is:

Note

This option is only available for folders included in your user profile. Folders in your user profile include My Documents and its subfolders, Desktop, Start Menu, Cookies, and Favorites. If you do not make these folders private, they are available to everyone who uses your computer.

When you make a folder private, all of its subfolders are private as well.

You cannot make your folders private if your drive is not formatted as NTFS

Open My Computer

Double-click the drive where Windows is installed (usually drive (C:), unless you have more than one drive on your computer).

If the contents of the drive are hidden, under System Tasks, click Show the contents of this drive.

Double-click the Documents and Settings folder.

Double-click your user folder.

Right-click any folder in your user profile, and then click Properties.

On the Sharing tab, select the Make this folder private so that only I have access to it check box.

Or if you have $39.95 to spare and want to password protect your folder than click here

has just up the stakes with it’s propose purchase of Canadian company ATI Technologies Inc for $5.4 billion.

This is the excerpt from AMD & ATI’s site:

On July 24, 2006, AMD and ATI announced a plan to join forces, in a transaction that will combine AMD’s technology leadership in microprocessors with ATI’s strengths in graphics, chipsets and consumer electronics. The result is a processing powerhouse: a new competitor, better equipped to drive growth, innovation and choice for its customers in commercial and mobile computing segments and in rapidly-growing consumer electronics segments. The transaction, valued at US $5.4 billion, is expected to close in Q4 2006 subject to approval by ATI shareholders, court approval, regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions.

This device has the potential to be a really cool security gadget,i’ll explain why i said “potential” later on.

The USB Wireless Security Desktop & Notebook Lock is yet another nifty product from ThinkGeek. It’s a two piece gadget, one USB receiver dongle connected to the computer & a battery-powered access transmitter, which is to be carried by the authorized user.

It’s quite simple to operate, just plugin the USB dongle to your PC and keep the access transmitter with you (e.g your pocket), once you walk away from your PC either to chat with someone or to attend to nature’s call ( – 2 meters range),the devices automatically locks your PC,thus preventing people from accessing your PC.

It also has a 5-level password system in place just in case you drop your access transmitter somewhere in the toilet…God forbid!.

Ok,why did i say potential?

What if people just remove the USB dongle? I didn’t find my answer to that..hopefully they will address it soon, and it doesn’t work for other operating systems besides Windows 98/SE/ME/2000/XP…bummer!.

Also has these great features.

    * Automatically locks PC when the user is physically away from the computer
* PC resumes automatically when user is within range (2 meter range)
* Grant access to authorized user within 2 meters of the protected computer
* Requires zero user interaction to initiate/release security protection, eliminating user error
* Password override can unlock PC if transmitter is lost
* Reliable Radio Frequency wireless technology

Well, Christopher Null over at Yahoo! Tech has written
a rather simple, understandable article about Blu-ray and HD-DVD and what it’s all about.

What is High-Definition DVD? High-definition DVD is a generic turn for the next generation of DVD technology, which can burn more information onto the same size disc as your current CDs and DVDs. Like a DVD, it can be used for either video or computer data. But you’ll need new hardware to play a hi-def disc on either your TV or your PC.

According to the review, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2 is a solid offering in the ultra-zoom digital camera field. It takes good images at 6 megapixels and has a nice lens with good image stabilization.

But Some of the controls were not very comfortable to use. Also, the menu button is not really accessible if you’re in the middle of shooting. It’s kind of tucked back toward the base of your thumb, which makes it hard to operate when your hands are in shooting position.

One of the conveniences of modern living is mobility that is made possible by high-tech tools that keep up with people who are always on the go. Perhaps the best among these gadgets is the laptop.

The laptop has revolutionized the traditional office concept into what we know today as the virtual office. A sales executive can be several miles up in the sky and still enter his bid to a client through the use of the high-speed Internet connection of his trusty laptop. Doctors in remote jungles of Africa communicate with their colleagues through web cameras attached to their laptops. With Bluetooth technology, wireless connection among laptops over a network has enhanced the virtual office.

All over the world, several industries—and even lives—depend upon the connectivity among people that the laptop and the Internet provide. And laptops depend on battery power. A traveling salesman or doctor, or any sensible person on a business trip, must always have a fully charged battery on hand and some extras for emergencies.

Currently, there are only three kinds of laptop batteries in the market. These are Nickel Cadmium batteries (first generation rechargeable batteries), Nickel Metal Hydride batteries, and Lithium Ion batteries. All of these are rechargeable.

Among the three kinds mentioned, the Lithium Ion (LiON) is the one used in the latest laptop models. Although the most expensive, it is the most efficient and reliable. It is lighter, too, and has no effect on memory compared to the Nickel Metal Hydride kind.

Laptop manufacturers may still insist in their manuals that you buy only the same brand of batteries for your unit. But you may want to try some of the universal laptop batteries around that are compatible with most units. These lightweight batteries may even be cheaper compared to the established brands in the laptop business.

Well, Hybrid Hard Drives (HHD) integrates NAND flash memory with the standard magnetic storage in today’s hard drives.

Samsung says they will demonstrate a prototype of the first commercially available (HHD) at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference in Seattle next week.

“We see the HHD as the most advanced and cost-effective means of improving the performance of a notebook computer’s storage functionality,” Samsung senior marketing vice president Jon Kang said. “The Samsung HHD addresses the two biggest consumer desires: extending battery life and improving boot and resume performance.”
