CBHD has improved on this, and undercut the Blu-Ray prices.Currently Warner are the only studio officially backing CBHD, although with the Chinese Government and it’s 2 billion population supporting the new format, things could soon change. Chances are that this new format might soon take over the Blu-Ray format completely. Currently the CBHD format, outsells Blu-Ray three to one in China, and with the new government backing this is only set to increase. While Blu-Ray may be under threat from the new CBHD format, it has gained a strong foothold in the western world. This could protect it from being taken over by the CBHD format. This is still under dispute however, as most of the blu-ray sales are PS3 based.Only time will tell if the new cheaper CBHD format dominates the Blu-ray market, or if HD internet streaming will beat them all!

Panasonic have just released their new handheld digital camera, and it looks like it may just be a winner.

WIth the Panasonic FP8 the research bods decided to take an innovative new approach. Instead of simply increasing current specifications they did something rather radical.

After much stagnation in the digital camera industry, panasonic went to it’s customers and asked what they wanted.

Quite surprisingly the customers said they did not care that it’s current digital cameras could take pictures with 12 megapixel resolution, neither did they give the proverbial about being able to put a picture frame around someones face. Infact the only real complaint was that it can sometimes take up to 10 seconds for a camera to start up, and two seconds for it to take a photo.

The people up at Panasonic HQ thought long and hard about this, after all they have spent 10 years working out how to fit more mega pixels in to a smaller space. But in the end they admitted, maybe it was time to listen to the consumer.

And the results do not dissapoint, the Panasonic Lumix FP8 starts in under a second, it has a new high speed auto focus system, which before was the domain only of Sony. Even with this high speed picture taking you get anti-blur technology and auto flash/whitebalance settings to give you the perfect picture!

This dinky little camera even comes with HD video capabilities, a sweet topping to this already delecious treat!

My only worry is that Panasonic may have come a little bit too late with their realization. Sony alraedy has sone pretty quick consumer digital cameras with the DSC series, and many casual photographers swear by it. However the New Panasonic Lumix FP8 is a very strong contender, which will do Panasonic proud!

For those of us in the handheld world, rumours of the new Sony PSP Go have been circulating for some months. There have been many whispered stats, and plenty of fake ‘leaked’ pictures. Sony have however finally put an end to this speculation and have given us our first hands on test of the PSP Go.

The Sony PSP Go has a brand new look, and while it may have plenty of upgrades there are a few downsides too, first and foremost the loss of the UMD slot means that your old games will not work on this, though it has made the device smaller, and increased it’s battery life.

The next main downside in my view is the smaller screen, the original PSP was just about bearable for watching the odd movie. Now the screen has been downsized 4.3 to 3.8 inches widescreen you may just find it simply too small.

Infact a lot of the improvements to the Sony PSP Go make it feel more like an attempt to rival the iPod touch, but without the touch. This comparisson has also sparked questions on why Sony have not integrated cell phone features in to this device, something which truely could put it up against the iPhone and similair portable multi function devices.

Despite this however the Sony PSP Go has plenty of features to keep it going. Since UMD is no longer supported the PSP Go works soley on direct downloads. To help support this it comes with a huge 16GB internal flash memory stick, with a slot for another flash card, if required!

The controls for the Sony PSP Go follow the usual playstation layout, it does take a little getting used to, since the controls are pushed together in to the small pop out layer. This can feel a little bit more cramped, but since the control panel has it’s own section it there are less accidental button presses, which many people found a problem on the original PSP Go.

On top of the original PSP WiFi integration the PSP Go also includes bluetooth compatability. This allows bluetooth headset integrateion, connection to a cellphone for 3G connectivity, and the possibility of connecting a PS3 on the horizon. Although with the new smaller screen I am not sure just how well that would work out.

The PSP Go allows for much easier integration with TV show, movie and music downloading. Unlike Apple, Sony did not create their own store for this. Instead they partnered with eMusic, to allow users DRM-free digital media downloading over a WiFi connection. This will supply the top digital media at competitive prices to the PSP Go customers with none of the numerous restrictions placed on iPod users.

We expect to hear more details from Sony in the near future regarding the PSP Go, the world is waiting with baited breath for the technical specs behind teh latest version of the PSP!

Let me reminisce for a few seconds.

Several years ago I was walking through York on a night when me and a friend came accross this young blonde girl having an asthma attack on a bridge. Needless to say we called an ambulance, but in the meantime what were we supposed to do? Keep her warm or cool, give her water? We did not know.

This is where the new medical iPhone application comes in, it’s a hefty file, so i suggest you wait till you have a decent 3G or WiFi connection. But Download this! It contains all the medical information you will need to cope with a basic medical crisis, something that could one day help you save somebody’s life!

In my eyes that makes this medical iPhone application the worlds greatest iPhone App!

The charging mat uses one wall socket and can charge up to four devices at a time. it supports most current devices, and if it doesn’t it supplies additonal cables for $4.95 each!

At $40 the charging mat may seem a little bit expensive, but when you consider it can charge nearly any device, save you space and securely hold your hardware, well it suddenly doesn’t seem quite so much!

Sony have repeatedly stated that they will not be releasing a netbook, today however they seem to have changed their mind. Sony Vaio have released the W series, and while they don’t call it a Netbook it is small (Ten inches) lightweight and only an inch thick.

Where the new Sony Vaio W Series differs from normal netbooks is the price, costing around $100 more than your typical netbook. However this is a new release and we do expect the prices to go down in the future. Sony are not known for their cheap prices though, so the future is uncertain!

Personally I like the newSony Netbook, it is smooth and has true Vaio reliability. In some ways though I think it may flop, it just isn’t cheap enough for the netbook market. Who know though, maybe some people want small, lightweight high quality, rather than the small crap netbooks that you get from most other suppliers!

One of the most annoying things about your general PC, whether Windows, Linux or Mac, is the boot time. Things have become a little easier, but even so I still findmyself twiddling my thumbs for close to a minute while my laptop loads up. Fortunately there are a few ways to speed up the boot time of your PC, especially if you are using a Vista Machine, you can speed up vista boot time with easy simply by spending $30 on a usb flash drive!

So lets get down to basics, how can you speed up your PC?

First things first, the easiest, cheapest and quickest way to speed up a computer is by formatting and re-installing the OS, this does however bring in a few probelms, especially if you have hundreds of programs installed (Like me).

The second, more advisable way is to start uninstalling programs you do not use. Many of these will have background processes, some which start on boot and then close back down, others will constantly run. Either way they all will slow down your computers boot time by a small but significant amount.

You can uninstall programs from the control panel, however this often leaves things on your computer which can still slow it down, for this reason I suggest using something like Perfect Uninstaller

Once you have uninstalled the useless unused programs off your PC the next step in speeding up your computers boot time is to clean up the registry. Registry cleaning is often considered insignificant, however a single registry clean up can cut your computers boot time in half! Registry cleaning is as simple as a single click with products like Registry Easy!

Once you have removed all these excess programs then your next step is to keep your computer clean, An Antivirus such as McAfee and some anti-spyware tools such as Adaware are pretty much essential here!

Once you have the basics out of the way you can look at more interior ways to speed up boot time on your computer. These small tweaks can massively increase your computers Boot time

Change your Bios to speed up boot time on your PC, make your Hard drive the primary boot device (Ususally CD drive as default) and reduce the time the boot program pauses to let you press the safe mood and system set up keys.

Remove the boot up splash screen to speed up Windows boot time, this can be done in MSCONFIG by checking the /noguiboot option.

If you are using windows vista you can massively speed up vista boot time by using the fantastic ReadyBoost system. This actualy turns a USB flash drive in to extra memory for your computer, and gives a huge boost to your computers boot speed in Vista!

And there you have it, some cheap easy ways to speed up computer boot time!

Today we are proud to announce the official unveiling of the long awaited portable e-book reader the Amazon Kindle 2. The first inception of the Amazon Kindle was fraught with criticisms, from its price to its functionality. Today however amazon have decided to fight back by releasing this fantastic slimline piece of hardware!

Despite the Amazon Kidle 2’s price still being on the hefty side, $359, the new device comes with some amazing features, at 25% thinner and 20% faster these two basic features alone are stunning, and with a massive 25% extra battery life you can go for 2 weeks without a recharge.

The screen has been improved as well, going from the 4 color gray scale to an impressive 16 shades of gray. This allows the user to customize the Kindle 2 much more effectively for easy reading!

Though the Amazon Kindle 2 is thinner, faster and all in all better that the original Kindle it still lacks a lot to be desired. Despite its 3G downloading giving you a book in less than 6 seconds many people are still unhappy about the restrictions placed by Amazon with DRM software. This is especially frustrating when you can get cheaper PDF and text document readers out there for a lower price and with no restrictions whatsoever,

While the Amazon Kindle 2 is a nice device, and they have addressed a lot of problems, making this a truely sweet device to use I cannot help but feel that they really need to relax the DRM and lower the price to somethign just a little more reasonable.

Unfortunately as the years pass it seems that the once restrictive controls of apple have begun to losen and I have found myself with less and less to crticize. They have brought out fantastic free software, they allowede a windows emulation for macs and they made some fantastic devices such as the iPhone and iPod, even if they still have some majorly pain in the ass restrictions on the music you place on them. For this reason I felt yet again disappointed as apple released yet another superb product, this time being the iLife ‘09. iLife 2009 is an amazing piece of softwware for photo management with some impressive features and astoundinly well thought out designs. And while this great product has compatability with geo taggin on gps devices and improved events album management what really caught my eye was the Face Recognition functionality.Yes after tagging one of your friends you can not only set iLife ‘09 to tage every other photo with your friend in it with one of those funky Facebook style squares but you can also upload them to facebook tagged. This means that there will be no more labourous tagging of facebook friends, you can simply upload your new photo’s to iLife ‘09, it will tag all your friends and then you can put them straight onto facebook, with the tags and the location. This feature seems os brilliant to me that it may even convince me to take the plunge and by one of those overpriced incompatible mac things, or maybe not.

The use of digital SLR cameras has vastly reduced many of teh significant problems found in the film based SLR cameras. Though one major issue has always been that there has never been a duel lcd screen to allow off the hip or from the ground easy picture taking.

This issue is mainly because an extra LCD screen would make the camera extremely bulky and much heavier. This is something that has hindered progress on flexible screens on digital SLR cameras since they first became available.

Until now.

In recent years technological advancements have been focused around the high tech industry, but rather like a caveman in the 90’s it has taken the genius of the team at flipbac to provide us with a genius cheap and flexible device.

The Flipbac angle viewfinder is an amazing product which allows the photographer to change his viewing angle of the digital camera screen with nothing more than a small mirror with a small attachment device that fit most Digital SLR Cameras!

This handy little viewing divice has raised a storm from the digital SLR enthusiasts, many of whom still promote the optical viewfinder as the only true way to take photo’s. The truth of the matter is though that this growing minority are keeping themselves locked away from a huge convenience and speed factor in picture taking!

The Truphone currenly only lets you ring other Truphone and Google talk users via a WiFi network. (So slightly more limited than an iPohne as you need ana vailable connection) This is all via VOIP so once you have converted you iPod touch to an iPhone you will be able to make 100% free calls to other users.

Truphoen have also announced that the app they have created to allow calls from an iPod Touch will soon be able to make calls to landlines and mobiles, current pricing structures are currently in creation.

Personally I think this is great news for iPod Touch users who wanted a bit more flexibility with their device. The Truphone iPod touch to iPhone conversion software is available to download on the Apple iStore! for Free!

The new Nokia N97 is a beauty to behold, but under the sleek smooth exterior is held an amazing array of smart, useful and downright clever functions for its users.

First lets cover the basics, this phone is similair to many stand alone personal internet devices, but this device contains both a sliding screen and a full QUERTY keyboard.

This phone, while having the telecommunications functionality also has a GPS function which is used by the device not only for route finding but also to automatically update all your social website accounts with your location and to tag images you take with were they were taken!

The home page itself has links to several social networking sites, but it is fully customizable for anyone who would like different websites at the click of a finger.

Under the hood of this beautiful device we have more surprises than you could shake a rabid chincilla at. For starters the device has 32GB of storage BUILT IN! with flash upgrade capacity of an extra 16GB. It has a media player built in, and WiFi for at home browsing and file transfers. On top of this it is fully 3G compatable for ont eh move browsing and downloading.

The camera on this device is a top notch 5 megapixel godsend which is surprisingly good in low light and normal situations. It has the good ol’ Carl Zeiss lens so you are guaranteed a high quality shot!

While this phone has broken the trend of touch screen, better for texting but worse for web browsing, I do predict it will be a massive success on it’s release in Europe in the beginning of 2009. For 550 euros though the N97 is a little pricy for many people!

The Motorola ZN5 is a combination of the Motorola brand with , get this Kodak, the brand you once saw everywhere! Kodak have just began a serious foray into the digital world by teaming up with Motorola to release a camera phone with unbeatable specifications!

But things get better, ontop of the 5 megapixel camera that comes with this phone it also has WiFi built in, so no more cable, simply walk into your house and you can instantly upload all of your photos straight to your computer!

As an addition to the Motorola ZN5’s camera functionality not only does it have a brilliant camera inside but it also has a TV link, so if you have a handy TV nearby you can see all your photos on the big screen!

In a move from most phone cameras the Motorola has a defining 0.2 second click to capture time for taking pictures, that means that when you press that button the picture gets taken, unlike many other phone cameras where you may find yourself waiting for upto 2 seconds for the photo to be taken.

Personally I love this phone, and it’s smooth curved finish. I think it is a breath of fresh air from a phone company that has found itself well behind the times compared to other phone companies, much like kodak which was left behind with the digital revolution.

I look forward to seeing more from these previously redundant companies as they appear to be making an offencive cmoback with stylish well designed and feature heavy mobile camera cellphones!

Adobe, the worlds leading graphics design software manufacturer, have today anounced teh specs of th eeagerly awaited Photoshop CS4.

Adobe Photoshop CS4 is a ground breaking on several levels, first and foremost its graphic card utilization, a first outside the Apple Mac, and defiantely something that should be worrying the ol’ iPod creators.

The graphic card utilization gives Photoshop CS4 a whole new level of graphic manipulation, veiwing and modification power, greatly reducing lag. Mix this is with CS4’s 64bit compatability and its new Pixel Bending technology (Reduces rendering time on special effects) and suddenly CS4 is not only a more diverse, but also a much, much quicker product.

Along with the new speediness you also have Flash compatability now, allowing greater flexibility when creating flash documents and a new host of tools within photoshop!

My allover favorite feature though is content aware scaling, this can stretch and distort an image while retaining key areas. Say for interest stretching an image of a couple walking on the beach, you can stretch the image to the length you want while retainingt he size of the settnig sun and avoiding the couple becoming grotesquely fat!

All in all I love the new Adobe Photoshop CS4 and look forward to buying it on release!

This time however the Fit-PC seems to have pulled off being the worlds smallest XP compatible PC, or maybe even just the worlds smallest PC . The Fit-PC comes in at a tiny 10cm wide, 11cm long and only 3cm deep, making it quite possibly the worlds smallest computer.

Considering its tiny size the fit-PC has a fairly decent amount of hardware under the hood,

CPU: AMD Geode LX800 500MHz

Chipset: AMD CS5536

mini RS-232 (cable available from CompuLab)
VGA DB15
Stereo line-out audio (headphones)
Stereo line-in audio / Mic

While it would not stand up to many of today’s games the fact that all this is packed into the worlds smallest XP compatible machine makes it more than worth the downgrade!

Unfortunately I soon realised that while this is possibly the worlds most portable PC it is just the PC, include the power pack, monitor, the monitors power pack, keyboard and mouse and suddenly I think you would find you asking yourself why in gods name didn’t you just buy a laptop?!

Phorm, for those of you who don’t know, is the logging of personal information to provide targetted adverts to the user. In recent years this has been hotly debated across the EU as to wether or not it is in fact legal.

Many people do not like to have their search information recorded, but lets face it, it’s not just the internet that does this. Your local supermarket, be it Tescos or Walmart will be recording what you buy and when you buy it so it can send out advertising to you on the right day about the right products.

Personally I could not care any less if a company recorded information abotu what i bought, searched for or similar, I would prefer to have adverts relevant to me rather than an inbox full of, to put it bluntly, bullshit.

I find this move a hysterical response to an ‘internet phenomenon’ and that this is just anotehr example of nanny state behaviour appearing from the EU. Many internet companies succeed becasue tehy can see that a certain number of people like certain things, if this information is removed or becomes unreliable the tax losses for governments nationwide will be pretty damn big as companies go under and new ones cannot start.

I use google keyword stats regularly so am more than well aware of how advert targetting is imperative to the survival of small business on the internet.

We use pen-drive to store data, back up data, move stuff from one PC to the other. But have you ever seen pen drive being used for show off and decoration purpose. Well here are some of the USB pen drives we wish we all had seen before making a buy of a USB pen drive. Some of these pen drive are just pointless, some are heavy and some are too expensive to own.

5). The Nike Air Max 360 flash drive

This is quite a unique kind of Pen drives we have ever encountered. This Pen Drive, produced in the shape of a Nike Shoes, is fast and wraps the NAND memory and the connector with some rubber. With pen drive will make sure that you empty all the neighboring USB slots though.

4). iDisk Diamond

iDisk Diamond is the smallest Pen drive made so far. This pen drive fits into the USB port of you PC. In terms of memory, it amazes you with the amount of data it can hold. iDisk Diamond comes in all memory sizes, be it 128 MB or the 8 GB (Say WoW).

3). Wallet Flash Drive

Walletex has developed the Wallet-Friendly device, the Wallet Flash, the world’s first credit card sized USB Flash Drive. The Wallet Flash USB flash drive has received the CES innovations 2006 Design and Engineering Showcase Honoree in the Personal Electronics Category, right upon its launch, and awarded “The 2007 Promotional Gift” by Promotional World.
This world’s slimmest USB device, and the only one that can be conveniently carried in a wallet, provides the discerning user with several major advantages over the conventional USB drives exist on the market.

2). World’s Heaviest USB Drive

Chris Spurge decided to permanently “embed” his USB drive to a 16-pound Galaxie 3000 bowling ball in fears of losing it. One caveat: connecting it to a computer. I can see the new trend now - flash drives stuck into Foreman grills, Karate trophies and old Pintos. The future is a beautiful place. While attaching this device to laptops and PCs within cramped confines probably isn’t desirable, it should definitely keep that precious data out of the washing machine, but we doubt this bad boy lands a strike anytime soon with such an extrusion.

1). 007 USB Flash Drive

For some people, losing is pen drive is not a worry, but the data filled inside it is. What if a person steals your Pen drive containing all your personel records like Name, Age, Bank Account number, Credit card information and the worst of all, you bank account or PayPal password. That is where 007 USB Flash Drive comes to rescue. This device “not only keeps would-be data thieves from getting to the thumb drive, it also will physically lock the drive to an object, such as a desk, via the bundled steel cable.

So, what is you kind of pen drive? Did we miss anything? Scribble through the comments section below.

The Dark Knight is about to create records and break records of the Titanic by being the highest revenue generating Movie so far. But it is not limited to Cinemas. Rumors are that people have seen XBox 360 for sale sporting Batman logos in the front and center. If that doesn’t rock you, hear this. Microsoft has also showed off a “limited edition”of Dark Knight XBox 360 in an exhibition in Taiwan. However all of you avid gamers won’t be able to have their hands on this Limited Edition of XBox 360 but chances are that Microsoft will change their mind and put these kinds of consoles in mass production.

Sky have teamed up with music publisher Universal to give a limited number of downloads for a fixed monthly fee to subscribers of its new music download service.

While it is interesting to see Sky pick up this service it may be too little too late, with only one major record label supporting it many users may be upset that they cannot find all the songs they want!

On the plus side thought the tracks sony release wil be 100% DRM fre, meaning you can swap and change the MP3s between your devices without any worries of incompatability.

There is no news as of yet as to how much this will cost, how many songs you will get or even if they will be downloadable straight onto your set top box, watch this space for more information!

The iPhone 3G has been around for only a week and yet already there is a huge amount of software available for it. The applications for the iPhone 3g vary wildly, from the rathe unimaginative to the wacky and insane software you can get for it. The iPhone 3G third party tool I have found most useful however is a small application called Jott, which is a personal Dictaphone for you iPhone. Not only does this utility do the normal voice recording, but it also converts your voice to notes and then allows you to store or send the text!

This iPhone 3G utility is showing incredible power, as you can create lists, swipe off notes you have finished with and send htem on to others who need the information, in the future I would not be surprised if this is modified to allow for voice commands as well!

This is however one of my top iPhone software applications, its usability and usefulness have made this tiny little applicaion indespensible to me on a day to day basis!

Of all the tools so far Jott is by far the best iPhone application, for both work and personal life have allowed me to quickly say what I need to do rather than type in and organise, a nifty little prioritisation feature makes sure that I never forget the things most important and I am hoping soon they will insert calendar functionality!

But of course the best thing about this piece of iPhone 3G software is that its 100% Free to download!

You can get the Jott Dictaphone tool for the iPhone 3G Here for Free!
